Thank you for a great conference

Thank you for your participation in the 16th Conference on Location Based Services (LBS 2021), which was held online on Zoom on 24-25 November 2021.

This year we were again privileged to host more than 215 participants from all over the world, contributing to the conference with high-quality presentations and inspiring discussions.

The conference featured five keynotes:

  • Michael Batty, University College London, “More Than One Digital Twin”
  • Urška Demšar, University of St Andrews, “Studying migratory bird navigation with spatial data science”
  • Matt Duckham, RMIT University, “LBS and Indigenous Data Sovereignty”
  • Anita Graser, Austrian Institute of Technology, “Open LBS Research: Why (not)?”
  • Ross Purves, University of Zurich, “Location, place and language”

The conference also featured a “Best paper session” on the 2nd conference day and five oral sessions on “Wayfinding and Navigation Systems”, “Positioning”, “Location tracking and systems”, “Mobility and Activity Analytics”, and “Visualization, Perception and Analysis”.

Thank you for making the conference such a memorable event again!

Hope to see you again at LBS 2022, which will be hosted by Augsburg University and TU Munich in Munich on 12-14 September 2022. More details will follow.

Best Paper Awards

The best full paper award at LBS2021 went to Jerome Dreyer, Sven Heitmann, Felix Erdmann, Gernot Bauer and Christian Kray from Germany for their full paper on ” ‘Informed’ consent in popular location based services and digital sovereignty”.

The winner of the best short paper award at LBS2021 is “Would citizens contribute their personal location data to an open database? Preliminary results from a survey”, authored by Vilma Jokinen, Ville Mäkinen, Anna Brauer and Juha Oksanen from Finland.

Preliminary Program is Online

Our first preliminary program is online. It features five keynotes by Prof. Mike Batty (UCL), Dr. Urška Demšar (University of St Andrews), Prof. Matt Duckham (RMIT University), Dr. Anita Graser (Austrian Institute of Technology), and Prof. Ross Purves (University of Zurich) respectively, as well as one “Best papers session” and five oral sessions. Presentation guidelines regarding oral presentations will be available with the next days.

Please note that registration is free, but required. If you have not registered, please do that as soon as possible.

Work-in-progress submission deadline extended to 22 September

The deadline for work-in-progress submissions (up to 1200 words) of the LBS 2021 conference has been extended to September 15 September 22. If accepted, you are invited to give an oral presentation at the conference and an abstract or full paper (your choice) will be published in the online proceedings of the conference (with a DOI). High-quality work-in-progress submission will be invited to submit the extended version to be considered for Journal of Location Based Services, or Journal of Navigation.
